Performance Cashmere - what is it?

We wanted to create a knit that would stand the test of time. And we wanted the knit to meet our highest standards.

We set out to make best use of natural fibers, to get away from petroleum based synthetics. We were determined to build products that evolve through the decades yet remain true to their predecessors. We had aimed to satisfy our athletic friends and families and yet still be deemed a sweater that you would grab for everyday use and extended wear.

So we set on a path of sampling. We first used a merino wool and the quality we recieved in round 1 of samples seemed dull and not terribly refined. We based Round 2 on a Merino/Cashmere blend (10% cashmere with 90% merino), and that too came back as less than we’d imagined. So for Round 3 we sampled in a 30% cashmere and 70% merino. Although we liked this version, the manufacturer also sent us a 100% cashmere sweater - and wow, was this a notch above!

Still we weren’t satisfied. Could they make it slightly more sporty we asked. Indeed, when laced with Lycra, the hand-feel and the durability blended into just right. We call it Performance Cashmere.

So our sweaters blend cashmere with Lycra, it’s the secret sauce. It can be machine washed and worn day after day after day without the pilling normally seen in 100% fine cashmere sweaters. We are impressed and we think you will be, too!

Cashmere is warm, exceptionally soft, regenerative, and temperature regulating. The yarn suppliers we have chosen to work with are conscientious and have the highest standards. They enhance the villages and of the herders they work with and offer generous compensation for the raw materials. They invest in the future of the herds and the herders. We rely on the sustainability of the animals, the taking of the fibers, and the manifestaion into yarns, and we trust our partners.

So give our perfromance cashmere a try! It doesn’t hold odor, it retains its shape, and you will love how it feels on your body.
